This will be interesting as this totally came out of nowhere. It certainly could be a good thing for Savannah.
If approved, it would move Georgia Southern from the 6th largest university in the state to the number 3 spot...

Sources have confirmed that the Georgia Board of Regents will announce tomorrow that Georgia Southern Univ. and Armstrong State Univ. will begin a study to merge. The concept is that the Savannah campus of ASU will become a GSU campus, with an anticipated doubling of the student enrollment here in future years.

I could see the Armstrong campus becoming a focal point for future GSU expansion. I personally would love for the state to create a medical school at GSU and to establish that school in Savannah.

I think a merger of Armstrong and Savannah State makes way more sense. But knowing the history of the Board of Regents and their merger proposals, this will probably happen.

A merger between ASU and SSU would make more sense, but considering the backlash such a proposal got back in 2008, I doubt it would have ever happened. In the end , I believe this merger will be a big boost for Savannah/Chatham County.

How are Georgia's colleges and universities ranked in size? I can see Georgia and Georgia Tech first and second respectively.

Georgia State is the largest with about 50,000 students, after that it's Georgia and Kennesaw State rounding out the top three in terms of enrollment.

I think Georgia State or Kennesaw merged with Georgia Perimeter.

Anyhow, this is an interesting deal. This is less of a merger and more of Georgia Southern absorbing Armstrong and buying them out.
