Hello,

OlddocKat I am her niece and she is letting me live here this winter.

I could not get an account in my own name.

I am hoping you can help. I hate it here because it is very redneck bible country and I am a transgender person, born female but does not like it much at all! I want to live in a more liberal area but not a big inner city because I have mental illness and need safe and quiet. Like a small town but with liberal people who are not going to gulk at me for looking in between male and female.

I do not need night life, but I would like to meet lesbian and gay people. I like walking for exercise. There is no one to even talk to here unless you are a bible believer, which I am not!

I am not one to change my body, not looking for medical change, but am looking for people who will at least not make fun of me for looking male but still able to tell I am female.
Also, I am not young, age 55 soon, but young compared to Kat who likes this horrible redneck place, Dothan AL yuck!

Thanks for any help on Pooler area of other areas near Savannah, without being inside the city

"Sidewalks" could be the deal breaker. Not many of those here. Other than that the rest of the issues and concerns you noted are malleable...I guess?

Your more "tolerant, liberal" areas are going to be in the downtown core and the immediate gentrified neighborhoods on its southern border. Ranch styles homes are here, but I don't know how many you going to find in a gay/trans friendly neighborhood. I don't think Pooler will be for you, as it's a very "Red" area, as are most areas in Chatham County outside of downtown and minority-majority neighborhoods. This is South GA, a very red part of a Red state.

As an aside, while you may not like Dothan or the Bible, be careful as to the size of the brush with which you paint.

So not being inside the city? Does this mean the entire city of Savannah or the downtown core?

I find all of Chatham County to be fairly open or tolerant. However I don’t spend a lot of time in certain areas. I’m mainly an Islands and downtown guy with an occasional foray into Pooler and Southside.

To the OP, the central city is definitely going to be where she’ll feel most comfortable in her element especially downtown. I’d imagine anyplace in Savannah is better than Dothan.

"They have moved on from here," the man answered. "I heard them say, 'Let's go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. Genesis 37:17

I'm impressed (with the scholar part). Many, many people "read" the bible, but far too many of them do not understand the who, what, and why of what they are reading.

I am assuming there would be some suburban areas outside the city where it would be more liberal, compared to Dothan? Some parts like smaller towns with sidewalks where one could walk to town center.

I realize i am not going to find a San Fransisco liberal area anywhere in the South. Dothan is all family and very redneck ( check out roadshacks), extremely Christian, even bible quotes on physicians walls, it is all a bit too much for me! My hope is for a relative more tolerant area. My lifestyle is more like most older persons, not out at night, seldom drink and prefer daytime activities for exercise.

I could go into the city if a wanted more contact with gay people.

You confuse me: Being liberal doesn't mean you're not a Christian. It doesn't mean you don't "quote the bible". It doesn't mean you don't believe in family.

And BTW "older persons" (like me , I'm 99 years old.. go out at night, and drink... a lot.

So, what is it you would like to know??
