IMO, this is a prime example of why the de-merger should not have happened....

And now they don't want the help from Savannah and the Sheriff is being asked to help. Didn't he say he had officer and could get the department up and running?

Actually it was the city who finally grew tired of the counties half on the fence/half off the fence attitude & ended it.
You can guess why the big squabble was over who was going to pay for what. The people living in a rural part of the county though they should pay based on crime stats & number of calls vs. the number of officers needed for their geographic area. There are a couple of county commissioners who complained all the time about the majority of the resources going into the City.

We have the same issue over the sales tax TSPLOST, the majority of the sales tax is generated within the city but the county is always first inline to get their cut & complains about their cut every year.

Your post is must reading. I think unincorporated Chatham County (most of it) has a fortress mentality. It's probably incurable, and I guess they should go their own separate way, or ways. As some suggested on another C-D thread, it might be that all of the county outside Savannah will become multiple municipalities like Fulton County. The governor and statehouse would actually like that (partisan politics), and the recent dramatics on Skidaway and Whitemarsh Islands suggest it might happen.
