They just love to tax & spend.

This is a silly idea. The city and county should turn over maintenance of the Truman and Veterans Pkwy to GDOT.

This won’t happen, and if it does, that politician will be out of office in a quick second.

If Truman Parkway is extended into South Carolina, I could see an opportunity for it being a toll road in new construction.

Interesting you say that. With surrounding counties such as Bryan and Bulloch voting on their own TSPLOST tomorrow; I wonder will Chatham officials push for a TSPLOST in 2019 or 2020?

Almost guarantee it...

I am not bashing career politicians but I am in this case. By my rose colored glasses I see the crew down there running things currently as the type who are in the play to pay game where they will find the money for a big project while in office & then once out become a consultant for $$$ on how to navigate the political landscape they help create. There is nothing illegal as this is the current model our country has at the federal level.

The arena & canal projects budget is $150 million tops compared to a billion dollar TSPLOST. The majority of the TSPLOST money was targeted to fixing up issues for the port so freight could move more quickly & efficiently. I have no problem with fixing the local roads as quite a few of them need updating especially around I-95, however I am not going to finance the transportation industries wish list at the port, they can use gas tax money for this which is what it was intended for. They also threw us local residents a few scraps but they were small projects.

You raise some good points, however the current commission chairman is against a TSPLOST. The only people pushing for a TSPLOST are Savannah city officials. But if the TSPLOST packages pass in Bryan and Bulloch Tuesday, I could see there being more pressure out on the county commission chairman the county commission in general to put a TSPLOST to the voters.

We will see a SPLOST vote maybe in November and definitely in 2019 before they would even attempt a TSPLOST. If they get it together, they could get 3 attempts at SPLOST before the current one ends in Late 2020.

County is more conservative than the city government but the county relies on the SPLOST tax more than the city as they don't have an extra property tax. If the SPLOST tax went away the county would be hurting or if they broke it down into a city/county split on where the money comes from. Most of it is from tourists downtown.

I still think it would get on the ballot when you look at the map.
