J. Crew at 201 West Broughton St., will close at the end of the month.

A sales associate confirmed that the store’s final day will be Jan. 27.

The store, which sales men’s and women’s clothing and accessories opened in 2014 as part of Atlanta-based developer Ben Carter Broughton Street Collection - a $90 million plan to revitalize the historic corridor.

The company, in March 2018, announced plans to shutter about 20 J. Crew stores during the 2018 fiscal year.

According to the company’s third quarter earning call on Nov. 29, J. Crew sales increased one percent to $430.9 million compared to 2017. During the first nine months of 2018 J.Crew sales decreased 4 percent to $1,251.6 million and comparable sales remained flat following a decrease of 11 percent in the first nine months of 2017.

Not surprised, J Crew 10 years ago was at the fore front of men's fashion, today they are an over priced mens clothing retailor who used to have quality clothes but now have cheap SE asia clothes.

My neighbor this weekend was wearing 15 year old abercrombie sweats doing yard work, still looked good, & they had lasted since college for the guy. Today Abercrombie falls apart after the 2nd wash.

I'm sure there's already a retailer waiting in the wings for that space.

Agreed. That’s one of the most prominent corners on Broughton. And while disappointed, I’m not surprised. As the story referenced, J Crew is not doing well. I’d stop in there from time to time to check out what was on clearance (which wasn’t much) but never bought anything at full price because their prices are, to be blunt, ridiculous. There were always more employees in there than customers.
