Sidebar ... but the long decrepit shopping centers in front of the Globe along Derenne will be coming down for a Starbucks (assumed relocation from 12 Oaks), Chick Fil-A, and Parker's. That corner is primed for redevelopment. A grocer there is still pretty key.
Oh thank goodness. That strip is an eyesore.

It's always bugged me that we had that unique, photogenic (it was in a movie, y'all) globe there on Derenne/Abercorn, but it was surrounded by what looked like slums. With the right planning, that whole block could be another conversation piece in write-ups about Savannah.

That whole Block is owned by the Lewis family, as in JC Lewis Ford. For non Savannah native folks, the Lewis family bought up lots of real estate in the Savannah area in the 1970s. Much of the commercial area in the Landings and this corner are still owned by their Trust. My understanding is they are just sitting on the land, although slowly businesses have been relocating from the shopping strips.

Back to the Southeast Grocers - they apparently sold the Bi-Lo in Pooler. It will be a Piggly Wiggly again. They said it will close on January 11th and reopen about a week later as a Piggly Wiggly.

That is a juicy scoop. It’s the closest grocery to me, but between BiLo and Piggly Wiggly, they are equally unimpressive. At least Piggly Wiggly is fun to say.

Depends on the Piggly Wiggly, some are very nice and others are lack luster. I tried the Bi-Lo on Victory once and that was plenty for me. I’d personally like to see better with Kroger’s-the one by me is so-so, it’s a small store so it’s to be expected. Now if they could only STOP rearranging the place so we could find stuff.

I shop some out at the Publix on Skidaway. I can find things there that are a tad different to mix it up some. All I can say though is dang, they have a ton of “financial institutions” there. It would be nice to see at least something different though for grocers here in the Savannah area. What would be your dream grocer to come here?

Traders Joes. They tend to take over empty stores, rather than build freestanding, so it would be perfect.

Would be nice to see Piggly Wiggly return to Crossroads SC.

I assume this will be a different owner/operator. Piggly Wiggly Carolina, the owner/operator who divested the store to BI-LO in 2013, is extinct.
