I will be moving to Savannah in a few weeks and I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions on a nice area to live that is close to Hunter Army airfield. I am in the Coast Guard and will be working there for only four months. I wouldn't mind being within walking distance of grocery/drug stores and parks, but I am more concerned with staying away from high crime areas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The areas of town near Hunter are not particularly nice or walkable.
Since Savannah is fairly small, and you will only be here for a short time, focus on finding something in an interesting or beautiful part of town, so when you leave you'll have fond memories of the city. Read other threads on this forum to see what areas people consider to be nice.
Perhaps you could sublet a place from a SCAD student, since many will be leaving for the summer in about a month. Check with local real estate agents or look at the SCAD classifieds online to see if something suitable is available.

Not all students live in the best areas, but many do. You'll have to use your best judgment on that or simply write back and ask the forum.

My husband works at HAAF too in the CG. He is in the airman program right now as well for 4 months. There is a house next to us for rent. Not sure what the price is, but our neighborhood is nice and I can get you the number if you would like. If you are interested or need us to look at places, let me know.

I am coming there to do my Airman Program too. I will be reporting the 8th of June. I am just looking for a one bedroom place.
