Coming to Savannah for Christmas - we have no family or friends in the area so we will be looking to eat out for all of our meals. We are looking for recommendations for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dinner. We're pretty low-key so we would prefer good, local, low-key places. However, we know with it being the holiday we might have to resort to "high tourist" type places or hotels for dinner on those two nights. Recommendations would be appreciated...we are open to all cuisines, but are especially interested in local favorites. TIA.

Second what Michelle said. Crystal Beer Parlor is definitely worth a visit every time. Great food, low-key and even despite a usual wait, you don't wait too long. Treylor Park is cool, esp. for more unconventional takes on more familiar bar food. The Vault is great as well. Hotel DeSoto has some good eats as well. Been a while since I've been there though, so I am sure the menu rotates. The Gray is pretty good as well.

Nothing fancy but I am a huge fan of that Greek place - Olympia Cafe, by the water, for a casual bite. Also, cannot not mention Vic's on the River for a more upscale dining (atmosphere is pretty casual though). The food in that place was really good.

Thank you for all these great suggestions. Another request...do you have a favorite, "hole in the wall", "nothing fancy" breakfast place? We live in a city now that has NO diners!! We're looking for a nothing fancy breakfast place, pancakes, omelets, french toast, ham, bacon, sausage, home fries, grits type place. Good coffee, good food, no "atmosphere" if you know what I mean...the kind of place that the locals go to for breakfast or lunch, not looking for ambiance, just good food.

I've always like Two Cracked Eggs Cafe personally. Those biscuits are a size of a hubcap... Food is great though imo and although it does get its stream of out-of-towners (let's face it, what eating place in Savannah does not?), it is non-pretentious and tons of choices.

I forgot about Clary’s Cafe on Abercorn. Mentioned in “the book”, but not sure it’s in the same location as it was then.

Hole-in-the-wall/diner places for breakfast are around. Check out the local Sunrise restaurant chain - the one on Tybee is particularly great. Nairobia's Grits and Gravy is good, although I hear they're currently closed for construction/renovation. Also, Sunny Side Up has a few locations. The Abercorn Diner is open 24 hrs. and wins for atmosphere. J. Christopher's is a bit more upscale, but good. The Original Pancake House (part of a national chain) is one of my faves. B. Matthew's is maybe the highest end choice, but way good. My daughter loves The Funky Brunch Cafe downtown.
