A 323-acre site in a rural region of Savannah in west Chatham County could be rezoned to accommodate warehousing and an ice hockey rink.

Cowan Investments, LLC is seeking Community Business and Light Industrial designations for what is now an Agricultural district north of Fort Argyle Road and west of I-95.

Crappy location on a two lane road with a bunch of warehouses. Not a great place to take the kids. Should have been in town or in one of the west side cities.

Won't be for long. New Hampstead's rear entrance is off Fort Argyle Road. New Hampstead will heavily develop with homes for the new Hyundai plant. Fort Argyle also connects to I-16 at Old River Road, which is a few miles from the plant location.

This is all déjà vu. It feels like Pooler circa 2001 on the cusp of its explosive growth. Hopefully, they'll leave more trees this time.

One can hope indeed. Hopefully they do more forward thinking than Pooler. Leave more trees and buffer spaces, more wetlands intact vs the more expensive option of digging holes and maintaining artificial drainage, planning transportation for what will be vs what is now, and planning mixed use along the corridor. For now, it's still fascinating that you can drive a few minutes up Ft Argyle and it almost feels more rural than Effingham or Bryan county. It's like a different universe from 15 mins east. I hope this place will be open for the public to skate in the winter! It was fun to skate at the civic center but it's only public for a few weeks of the year.

In addition to trees, the powers that be should require every land developer to put a multi-use path along the roads they face. Pooler could have been so much more pedestrian friendly with this kind of requirement.

They should make it (Fort Argyle) a limited access highway with service roads for better connectivity, but that’ll never happen.
