We are coming down and staying on Tybee from New Years Eve until Jan. 2.

Any suggestions where to spend midnight New Years Eve? We were thinking maybe get a spot at one of the restaurants on Tybee overlooking the water, like Fannie's? Or Crab Shack? Or would Savannah riverfront be better? Also any things to do New Years Day???

Thanks

I usually go to the fireworks on Tybee for New Years. It's usually a quiet affair compared to the hullaballoo they have on the 4th of July, but quite lovely.

The Crab Shack won't give you a good view of the fireworks and I've never gone to any of the restaurants for New Years. My friends and I spend the evening together at their Tybee cottage eating good food, drinking a little good wine, and generally enjoying one another's company. Then a few minutes before the event, we wander down to the beach and mark the transition with a toast and lots of hugs and kisses. Maybe it's not for everyone, but I enjoy it.

Certainly beats being out on the road with a bunch of drunken amateurs.

Rent a house.
Throw a party.
I'll be there.

Yea, if you are already at Tybee, stay there. It is not worth it to get on the roads.

Hollowdays are just for amateurs.
I never ventured far from home on them.
No matter where I was living at the time.

Aside to Halothane: That's twice that we have agreed.

Fannie's would be a good place - get there early. It is right on the beach at the Pier. Where the fireworks are launched. Hope they have their upper-upper deck open. Not the best food - a little expensive for a fish taco, etc - but a fun place. Or Dolphin Reef at Ocean Plaza but their restaurant is glassed in which is nice if it is very very cold. But it looks like the highs will be in the upper 70s for New Year's so I would rather be on the beach. Just bring your beach chairs and cocktails out to the beach for a great show. Or rent a beach house or condo - oceanfront or view - and you can watch from your own deck or porch (I am affiliated My Beach House Rentals - Vacation Rentals on Tybee Island, Georgia)
I also like North Beach Grill -they have an outdoor area - try the asparagus and crab appetizer (no affiliation )
don't forget the Polar Beach Plunge on new year's Eve 12pm
happy New Year to all
