Padgett would say:
Can you be a little more specific? What kind of work are you interested in?

Ellie would say:
You could look through some of the previous threads on this board to get a feel for what's available.

Al would say:
Do some of the work yourself.
Read through the older threads.
This has been answered ad nauseum.
Or are you just too lazy?

gaflsc would say: job market is bad. The old standby's of medical & education are not viable right now, with the hospital's laying off & the schools not doing any new hiring. Major industrial & white collar employers are laying off or not adding to payroll. If you can bartend....maybe, just maybe you have a slim shot. Give it a year, then take another look at us.

Default I found information to the contrary....

I don't want to go against any senior members on this one...but since I am going to be moving to Savannah and am in much the same job hunting circumstance, I have found good things about the Savannah job market recently.
I have been job hunting cross country for a few months now. (thanks to my office job where I have access to the interenet all day long
What I have found is yes, the job market is slow but there are people hiring right now. I am an avid craigslister craigslist: savannah classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events and I check everyday to see what office/admin job openings are opened up. I find that there is atleast 3 or 4 daily. But I must quickly add that craigslist is an open forum so anyone can post anything at anytime, so be wary of who you give your information to online. I usually request the comany info before inquiring about where to send my resume.
I dont know what type of work you do or would be interested in, but I have contacted several employment agencies who have temp positions always available for maternity leave employees, extended PTO, etc. Although it's temporary work, its still work and it may weather you through the financial storm gaflsc was referring to. I also work in a head financial firm in Los Angeles, so I know a little about where the economy will probably be going (no one knows for sure). As soon as people trust to start spending money again the gears will start grinding. But Healthcare & Education will come back because they have to. The federal stimulus will go specifically toward these two areas which should push them to take the hiring freezes off. All I hear all day long is regarding financials & the enonomy...so its my educated opionion.

I have a list of recruiting agencies in & around the Savannah area, but again it depends on what you want.

Okay, you sucked me in.
The Islands have/will have plenty of service type jobs available.
If that is what you do?
Or are willing to do?

FFG3 would say: What area in the country has a good job market right now? We happen to be in the biggest economic downturn in 80 years.

Also if you have the internet which you obviously do, it is not that hard to get a good idea of the general job market in the area by searching both the national and local job sites. You will know what is available in about 10-15 minutes.
