Hi - Would anyone know if it is better to take I95 to Highway 17 to Charleston then Highway 17 alone? (Maybe faster I would gather but not as nice?)
I believe I would cross the Talmadge Bridge and catch I95 in SC instead of I16?
I did a map search but am wondering:
I am not in a rush but don't want it to be a long event.
Would the drive on 17 alone be worth taking for the scenic view if I have the time? Thanks....

Sure, it's not a bad drive to take the old roads and certainly more interesting. I think you'd be better taking 170 for the stretch between Savannah and Beaufort. That way you can stop by on your way, since it's another lovely city. From there, it looks like you should take 17 again. Whatever the case, staying closer to the coast is more interesting than further inland.

It is definitely going out of your way if you take 16 to 95. That adds another 15 minutes to the drive, not that its too terribly much, but its not worth it.
You're doing good to go over the Talmadge bridge (U.S. 17) into South Carolina. .... 170 is a good choice if you have some extra time to explore. Otherwise, 17 will run you into 95 at Hardeeville. You'll take 95 north until exit 33 (95 and 17 are synonymous for that duration) where you'll be back on 17 which will take you on into Charleston.

I hope that makes sense!

Thank you Ellie and WanderingImport for your responses. To Charleston, I ended up taking 17 to 170 to 21 to 17. Coming back, I took the quicker way, 17 to 95. What a wonderful ride it was driving through the lowcountry of Beaufort. The Marine bases kept me from continuing in that area.

Does anyone know when they will be finished with the construction on 17?
