If the brain can survive outside of our body then could it realize it didn't have any limbs? (body)

Probably not. I see a lot of people walking around that don't realize they have no brain.

I'd say it could, but whether is would depends on the situation. Without sensory inputs, it might slip into a dreaming, in which case its ability to apply logicial analysis might be greatly reduced.

I would guess something like a "locked in" state. BTW, have you ever heard of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"?

There have been cases where people who had a leg or arm removed still feel its presence or even feel pain where there is no limb.

It would never occur to such a brain to wonder it is had any limbs or not. Just as it never occurs to me to wonder if apples grow on my branches.

Unless the brain had previously resided in a conscious human body, in which case it would have no way of discerning whether it had any limbs or not (since it has no outer-body receptors of any senses), and would have no reason to assume that they are missing. The brain itself cannot feel any pain.

In short, if you were anesthetized, and your brain surgically removed, when your brain woke up, it would not be aware that anything had happened, except that you would be in absolute sensory deprivation. Interestingly, it would probably still dream of being whole.

Interesting question, though. like the tree falling in the forest with nobody to hear it.

Or, if a man in a forest says something and there is no woman to hear him, is he still wrong?
