magnifying glass - and its progression - I think it stemmed the curiosity and ability to understand and give proof to/of things on a smaller and smaller level and re-ignited the ancients curiosity of whats beyond earth and to also understand things larger than our imagination would have otherwise taken us.
Everything from disease, to things outside of our atmosphere, electronics, and chemicals all have been brought into our reach for our use and further invention, which stemmed a greater understanding and added to our ability to see what we otherwise would have struggled to even imagine.
The sewing needle (about 40,000BC) allowed the manufacture of warm tight fitting clothing without which man could not have survived the temperate zone winters. Without this invention, homo sapiens would be confined to the equatorial zone of the planet.
Domestication of dogs from wolves. I saw a very nice science show about this. With the help of dogs, Man were far better off than otherwise.
There were some experiments done with foxes in Russia. They bred the most tame foxes, and over time, they began to look like dogs. Plus, they seemed to be smarter, and far more in tune with humans.
I'm not saying this is the most important development but it sure helped.
Plastic. Without plastic, there would have been much less economic advance in the modern global economy. Even in the most remote backwaters in the world, life is made more livable by the cheap availability of plastic water containers, shoes, eyeglasses, packaging containers, writing instruments, communications equipment, windows, household utensils, etc. The huge leap forward since WWII was made possible by plastic.
After plastic would be miniaturized circuitry. The leap from vacuum tubes to transistors.
The early inventions (agriculture, wheel, writing) were the kinds of things that any advancing intellect would eventually stumble across, recognize the utility of, and improve. They spontaneously arose in isolated cultures everywhere. By "invention", we should mean the product of a single mind, which then needed to be introduced to far-flung places where it could then be used.

While I like your choices neither was, by any means, the product of a single mind.
The BioHarp was the invention of a single mind -- Head engineer at Samsung, but this was his baby. Too bad he got the short in of the stick because he had no head for business.

refrigeration
It allows us to eat a wider variety of foods. It keeps food safe longer so that we can have more food on hand and available to us.
Not to mention the fact that air conditioning is a form of refrigeration. Which makes us more physically comfortable during the summer.
Of course, we wouldn't have this if electricity had not been discovered and a means to harness it for our use.
