My electric bill has increased every single month since the smart meter was installed last feb. I just got my bill & i used 100 kwh more in july then june. This is mainly from electric fan increase usage & turning my fridge temp up. I have used my cooler for only 3 hrs this summer & i dont have a/c. In july i used 201 kwh. Last july was 1/3 that. Im averaging around 7 kwh daily compared to 4 kwh in june. My bill was $18.00 (incl 20% discount). Can anyone tell me how much their recent electric bill was ? I pay $0.09 cents per kwh.
Don't know and don't care what I'm charged cause I can't do a thing about the rate I'm charged and I like to keep cool with AC....
If i had the income i would do the same thing but i dont. My electric bill is the highest its ever been since i moved here jan 1999. The electric company (SCE) is once again proposing a rate increase & im sure the CPUC will approve it. They always do. UGH!!!

First of all you might check with your local PG&E to see if the SmartMeter technology has even been deployed in your area at this time. Just because it was installed doesn't mean it's active yet, and my point is that the increase may have nothing to do with the SmartMeter.
But I know it's not an easy thing to get a live person on the phone at PG&E these days....

Steel7, I did some checking and see that your electric company is probably not PG&E, so I'm wondering now whether or not your company has notified you of the usage of the SmartMeters. Up here in PG&E land, we will be notified when the meters begin to be "remotely read" which is the term the company representative used.

Reason: added info
Yes i was informed back in jan about the smart meters being installed by southern ca edison. I had a very old dial meter that was slow as a turtle so my electric bills for 12 yrs were low + up until 2008 i paid .04 cents per kwh. Its just too bad its not that now otherwise my bill would of been less then 10 dollars.
And Smart grids.... gimme a break. The country is broke, we can't afford to fix our road/bridge infrastructure and we are going to spend 2 trillion dollars upgrading our electrical infrastructure?
I'll bet you ten to one that the government is, or will be, handing out huge subsidies for the utilities industry to accomplish the national move to smart meters.
Would those of you who have them - get them removed? Would you prefer not to have them being pulsed every 14 seconds - every day?
My utility will assess a $28 fee to have a meter reader come to the home - in the event I get the old meter put back in. But they do have "a guy that drives to the houses with a laptop to get the readings" with the smart meters.
So...?? If you believe the RF is questionable to children's health...would you have it removed and pay the additional $28???
If they allow you to get the older one put back,YOU ARE QUITE LUCKY AND I WOULD GO AND DO IT!!
