First of all, what exactly is an X class solar flare? Is the term 'solar flare' synonymous with a solar storm or more precisely, is it exactly the same thing, but just a variation in degree?
Secondly, could the effects caused by an X class solar flare be isolated to one particular region of the world, for example, North America, but no where else?
Also, what type of damage could a solar flare do and how long will it last? Say for instance it destroys the ability of our power grid, how long would it take for it to be up and running again? Would it have the same affect on all electronic devices?
