Wow, first two answers are only 0.435 away from each other! I didn't actually try solving it myself, so I don't know. I just threw some random numbers and signs into a random equation.
LOL! I was just tired of seeing that other thread with it's silly arguments going on. Felt the need to mock it.
Mock it how? In your post within that other thread, you made the claim that it was 2, when in fact, in order to achieve such, you have to multiply the numerator by the denominator (a direct violation of factional rules) and not to mention violates the principals of the order of operations (this was pointed out to you by another).
So I fail to see how coming here and posting a much longer problem somehow mocks the other or justifies your claim of opposing arguments being silly.
I am sorry, but just because the equation is longer, will not somehow stump people who understand basic math. /shrug
so I have a simple question then for you which is the specifics of the error you make.
Is this correct?
1/2*7 =1/14
If not, why? Now go back to the original equation discussed in the other thread:
48÷2(9+3) = ????
1/2*(9+3) = ?
If we apply your approach, then you are saying that that nine and three are actually 1/9 and 1/3.
Remember, a whole number such as 9 is actually 9/1.
I'm going to take an educated guess at about 11 and-a-half.
