Why do biologists say, "Mitochondrial Eve wasn't the first or only woman on Earth during her time".

Is this because of the fossils before her?
Or the variety of our genes?
Or because Y-chromosome Adam wasn't contemporary with here?

Or what?

Because there was likely more than one female contemporary of Eve's whose mitochondrial DNA was lost because no one from her line survived long enough.
