Evidently the elevator doors pinned the poor woman before the elevator took off and crushed her between the floors. Multiple safety devices had to be inoperative or bypassed for this to happen. Two other women who were inside the elevator had to be treated at the hospital for psychological trauma after witnessing the event.

I thought like the OP there were multiple safety devices on all elevator doors that made this type of accident impossible...

Someone was really really negligent or someone had tampered with the safety devices.

Article says the elevator passed inspection in June of this year....

You have to wonder how much an inspector was paid to pass the elevator in that inspection.

Just sayin'...

Now now, this is a union town and the elevator inspectors are union workers.

We know union workers never do anything under the table or criminal.

And we know non-union workers never cut corners just because their boss will fire them if they don't.

There are better chances of finding a snowball on the surface of the Sun then finding a non-union elevator inspector in New York city...

I doubt he was bribed, my guess is he was too busy bitching about how bad his union job is and he should get a raise and another week of vacation because with his current contract he only gets 6 weeks. He was simply distracted due to the stress of his union job and needs to visit a therapist.

The point is......there are incompetent workers everywhere.....union and non-union.

Considering union workers are the vast minority, I would say there are a lot more incompetent non-union workers in this country. They are everywhere.
