That doesn't make sense... the roosters fertilize the eggs AFTER they've been laid. I suspect this is a made up story
I suspect you are wrong.......
It's fertilized internally in the hen. The rooster has an internal sex organ that is in his cloaca (Latin for sewer, since it's where they also poop and pass urea from). Then he and the hen end up grinding cloaca and this is how the sperm transfers. The sperm travels up from the cloaca into the reproductive tract and once the egg is fertilized the yolk, albumen, and shell are added and the egg is then laid.
I think it probably went something like this:
"What is that fox doing? Trying to scare those hens... it's eating the white thing that came out of it? It must be edible! Let's try it!".
Better question: who was the first guy that said "hey if we add heat to that, it really makes something tasty!".
