I think there is a scale of 1-10 that people fall on. 1 being completely straight, 10 being completely gay and 5 being bisexual. I consider myself gay but I don't think I am a 10 more like a 7 or 8. The problem is many gay guys claim to be bisexual, especially when they are coming out, because it is easier so at any given time I think there are actually less bisexual people then it seems.

As far as what the OP said about being a part of evolution so society has less population. I don't think so as I know gay couples who have kids and even more who want them. My understanding the biggest factor is less population in a society is how advanced it is as the more advanced a society is the less kids families seem to have.

I am just wondering if Homosexuality could be evolution at work? It would make sense if you think about ho many humans there are, we are taking up more space and consuming more resources then ever before and the population just continues to grow. Homosexuality could be natures fix for this. Less people mating for reasons of having children would be a decrease in population growth. Some might think that this would mean that all humans would eventually be homosexual. Not true, I really don't want to explain how a single species can evolve and go down several different paths. I know my understanding of evolution isn't 100% dead on, but I think I have a basic understanding of it.

Please for the sake of science leave any biblical and religious bigotry out of this. I want scientific responses, any non scientific responses will be reported for deletion.
What's the selection mechanism?

Is homosexuality comparatively common in densely population places like Singapore, New Jersey, the Netherlands? Is it comparatively rare in sparsely population places like Mongolia, Greenland, Wyoming? Not that I am aware.

Further, as long as humans are getting what they need -- food, shelter, etc. -- and most of us are, which is why our lifespans are increasing -- there is no obvious (from a genetic point of view) reason (ie, selective pressure) for the gene pool to acquire population-limiting mechanisms. The fact that we can intellectually point to a potential Malthusian collapse somewhere on or over the horizon isn't going to effect the requisite genetic evolution.

Just my thoughts.

Homosexuality, could it be evolution at work?

Somehow I don't think nature would create something that couldn't reproduce, but it does produce freaks of nature on a regular basis...

If it is, it's been working since the beginning of mankind.

Not likely... as those who produce most prolifically tend to be the least intelligent
and least capable to do well for themselves.

Inviting the idea that homosexuality is nature's fix for reducing planetary occupation is about as valid as claiming the Chinese government is a product of nature for the purpose of reducing its population.

It's neither homosexuals nor the Chinese government having the babies. It's the result of two people doing what comes naturally - as a bi-product of nature. Seems right now it's more natural for Hispanics and Arabs than it is for Anglos and Japanese.

Of course it is. You could use the term "spectrum as well:

And with their positioning on that spectrum (or continuum) changing around some over time too.
