To those in the Earth science field professionally or by hobby, what would be some good books for a beginner/introduction to earth sciences specifically geology.

I used to collect rocks as a kid. Here is a good source to start with. It has LOTS of good info and books (check tabs).

I suggest going to your local university's bookstore and get the Freshman level Physical Geology text book.

I found mine on Amazon.
