When they add air conditioning and 15" subs to it it might become interesting.....

Bikes used to be seen as the preferred means of transport for the tech-resistant, but a new wave of e-bikes could prove popular with gadget geeks too. They provide chargers for smartphones, intelligent automatic transmissions, advanced theft protection and enough power to make biking up steep mountain climbs more manageable.

The "automatic transmission" is nothing new, they used to have a system that had four small spring loaded weights that attached to the spokes. As you went faster these weights would be forced outward by centrifugal force, I forget the exact mechanics if there was some kind of lever or cable but the derailleur would shift depending on your speed.
The motor sounds like a good idea as long as the batter is sustainable for entire length of a ride but it would seem to me you almost need the motor with all that extra weight, as far as the rest of that crap sounds like more stuff to break and added weight. On the subject of weight what happens when your battery dies and you now have an extra 20 or 30 pounds of crap on your bike?
Funny because when we were kids stripping everything off the bike that was not needed including the reflectors on the pedals was the first order of business for a new bike.

I owned a few of the first mountain bikes on the market, suspension? We had that, it was called letting some air out of the tires.

I had suggested that elsewhere but I can't divulge that.
