I have a picture of our neighborhood taken from across the lake and want to make the water on the lake look as though it is moving. Can this be done?

Yes, but....

You have to have a fairly decent knowledge of graphics, either using Photoshop (cost about $700) or Paint Shop Pro (cost about $30 at ebay...9 was the last version with Animation Shop included), GIMP (cost FREE) and filters (this particular filter is free, not all are).

I have Paint Shop ProX (and version 9) and have the tutorials to do the water but have never actually tackled it. Here is one of the tutorials for it: Animated Water Reflection - For: PSP 9 - PS - Gimp

There are forums and yahoo groups that will help teach this and plenty of tutorials. I can give you a list. Liz

Oh, and installing plugins gets a bit tricky too...

There is a program to help plus you need to make sure you have all the right .dll's in your windows folder. I have to reinstall mine every time I reformat. Liz

Thanks- I just e-mailed my grown son to see if he will come to help me with it. Here is the pix I want to do it to. Won't it look cool with sparkling water?!

Okay, I took the picture and actually did the tutorial I listed...

Here is the result. Didn't work as well as I would like.
1) the water didn't stay BLUE!!!
2) the reeds went missing.

I can adjust the speed...that's not an issue. But the other two are.

Liz

I did it again, slowing it down a notch...use either one you want. This one is a tad slower...not by much but just enough to not make me feel seasick. LOL.

It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature! Animation is OK with cartoons, etc., but not still pictures. The original picture is MUCH better! If you want movement, then take a video camera along.
