KUSA - It has been 41 years to the day that the last American walked on the moon. One of those astronauts was Gene Cernan.

Cernan heard the 9NEWS story about the 6-year-old who is trying to save NASA. So on the anniversary of Cernan's dream mission, he took a moment to encourage a little boy he never met.

Save NASA?..NASA'S budget for 2011 exceeded 18 billion dollers...Between 1958 and 2011..NASA's received and spent over 526 BILLION dollers...approx 10 billion/year.
Obviously the child speaks for his parents.
They forgot to tell him that the number of residents in the U.S.A living in poverty last year was more than 46 million.
They forgot to tell him that 13% of the adults living in poverty are veterans, and that 51% of them have disabilities.
They forgot to tell him that 63000 vets are homeless on any given night in the U.S.

Nasa's budget is 1/2 of a penny on a tax dollar. There are way better places to cut spending than to nasa.

A lot of products we use every day came from NASA research and equipment as well. They aren't just shooting metal into space.
