But ... I will entertain his question.
1 - how close do you want to get to the sun ?
--- I go outside and look towards the sun, not *at*, does that qualify as an exploratory trip ?
2 - OK, you want to go at night ?
--- May be a lot better if the location was also at the north pole ... ,
--- really cold there, especially in winter !!
--- Brings me to question: Where would you take a stop during the day time,
--- if you only want to travel during the night ?
--- I have not read in *Popular Science* that they built motel 6 units along the way

Nothing is impossible. Its just a matter if we have the technology to do it now or do we have to wait. If we actually want to send a probe into the sun or go in ourselves then we currently do not have the technology. Check back after 2100.

As soon as your between the Earth and the Sun, it's never night, and its always bright and hot. The closer you get, the hotter it is. There's no good time of year to do this or bad time of year to do this. They are all equal.
The Suns surface is 10,000 degrees F. Find a method to withstand that heat, and you can go there. Of course, the radiation would kill you, so you'd have to shield for that. The Earths magnetic shield from our core is what protects humans from it, but it only lasts so far, and once your out of the Earths shield range, your fully exposed to radiation.
Is it possible? Sure, anything is. Is it probably for us to do it in our lifetime? Probably not....

i donno about that....i'm still convinced if you're careful in planning, and you leave early enough in the evening, you can have a successful mission traveling through the night...
