Scientists grow viable vaginas from girls' own cells | Reuters
Quote:
(Reuters) - Four young women born with abnormal or missing vaginas were implanted with lab-grown versions made from their own cells, the latest success in creating replacement organs that have so far included tracheas, bladders and urethras.
Follow-up tests show the new vaginas are indistinguishable from the women's own tissue and have grown in size as the young women, who got the implants as teens, matured.
All four of the women are now sexually active and report normal vaginal function. Two of the four, who were born with a working uterus but no vagina, now menstruate normally.

One has to wonder, how far away are we from "basic pleasure models" like Pris from the cult classic sci fi film Blade Runner?

Brave new world, here we come. Still, I would not deny this technology to the many people for whom it means claiming a normal life.

Now we have this.
World’s first biolimb: Scientists are growing rat arms in Petri dishes - Quartz
Quote:
Losing an arm can feel like losing a family member. Though prosthetic limbs have been improving, they are far from ideal. And while the improving field of limb transplants gives hope, the patient has to take immunosuppressant drugs all their life to prevent the body rejecting the new addition because it once belonged to someone else.
Harald Ott at Massachusetts General Hospital and his colleagues have now taken a step towards the dream of building a biolimb—made with cells from the recipient so that it looks and feels like the natural part of the body. In a study published in Biomaterials, they show the reconstruction of the first rat biolimb.
