The pole has been in constant movement since it was discovered and mapped, then tracked.

The equator has not always been where it is today.
Actually, the equator has always been where it is today. It is the magnetic poles that are moving, not the actual poles. Where the equator is located is not determined by the magnetic poles, but rather by precisely 90° from the true north and south poles. It does not matter what angle the north or south pole are, the equator is always precisely 90° from either pole, and that never changes.

Currently the north magnetic pole is moving ~25 miles per year from northern Canada towards Russia. In the last 150 years, the magnetic north pole has wandered a total of ~685 miles, and the magnetic south pole has moved a similar distance in the same period.

One of the many theories surrounding the Mayan’s December 21, 2012 ‘end of time’ date was that the Earth’s poles would flip, along with dozens of other Armageddon-like occurrences.

I don't think the actual speed of the flip is controlled by a scientific consensus, but I get your point.

that is pretty random. Here is some information about polls flipping. Oh yeah, and remember the Mayans??

It is like me describing a scientific impact. . .and than noting that some random civilization back in the day predicted something that didn't come true and isn't that interesting

Alas -regardless - as far as I read its a big yawn. Maybe more radiation. . .it will take 200 years to flip. . .but no mass extensions have been tied to previous pole flips

so yawn. Poles flipping in next 200 years. this happens.

I see what your saying.... The lines have been drawn and titled with a label.

In reality, the true rotation of the earth, with the equator, tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn, with what they define in relation to the sun, have also moved in real time, not what is drawn on a classroom globe.

Oh Good Grief, I have to give you Codos for being one the few so far in this thread that knows what he is actually talking about. Stop Doing That!
I would also add that when they move they do not always move as two entities they can actually split and there could be more than two magnetic poles and that could result in some major issues with many electronic systems, but the odds are that by then we will have adapted our technology or we have already become a rare species on the planet.

True, most of us that have had to learn to use a compass in the Scouts, Military and/or for Wilderness Camping skills have learned that True North and Magnetic North are not the same and that one has to adjust to that fact to actually be able to use a map and compass. You would be suprised how few people know that important fact, or maybe You would not be
