I have been curious about what life might be like in the year 3000. Suppose we do not kill ourselves off or that we do not end up in a major disaster. Where do you think human civilization will be in the year 3000? Consider how far we have changed from 1000 AD to 2000 AD. How far do you think we will be in the year 3000AD?
The way we are increasingly relying on technology i think in 1000 years we will become irrelevant as a species and the world will be populated by one techno overmind doing whatever it is that it feels justifies its existence .
I think there will be a population of humans on the Earth who have rejected technological change and are trying to build a nature-based socially just society.
The other main group will have been augmented and/or fused with machines and will occupy multiple star systems. It's possible that post-physical entities will be common.
If I'm around, I'll be among the latter, out in the stars.
Edit: this prediction rings true (to me) even in 75 years from now. Except I think we will have settled a few locations in the solar system, but not beyond. I think we'll have shown FTL travel works in proof of concept. In another hundred years of advancement, post singularity, I think it will be feasible for travel. See Alcubierre drive.

At almost 66 I hope to live to see man on Mars and beyond. However I would not want to visit or live there (or on any other planet or moon in our solar system). Of course if the earth gets really f'ed up in my lifetime (which is a safe bet within the next 100 years IMO), I might (have to) change my mind.
With civilization going down the path it is now (not that I'm a pessimist) it's iffy if the current level of civilization will be around in 300 years let alone 1,000.
The biggest threat to modern civilization are the radical religious factions that want to drag us back to how people lived 4,000 years ago.
All the whiz-bang-super-wow-bleeding-edge technology cannot help us with this threat unless we want to use it to exterminate these factions...
I can't say anything about this 3000AD. Just passing over the 2000AD. I think thinking could I reach there.
