What will we use as phones if wearables take over? Or would wearables not replace an actual cell phone?

Ask yourself what a wearable is. What is the screen size of a wearable? How good is its camera? Apps? Can you do banking or watch a video? And are you willing to wear a two year old wearable article? Place a call or text? So what is the point?

IMO just an idea that won't replace our pocket computers that double as a camera and a phone

Eventually, AR glasses with hand-tracking gestural interfaces as well as eye-tracking gaze-based interfaces will take over. Various ways to compose text will exist, such as floating keyboards, gaze-based keyboards, surface-based keyboards, speech recognition, sub-vocalization recognition, etc. They'll have positional tracking (so they can understand all the three-dimensional objects in the real world in real-time and render three-dimensional objects in the augmented or virtual world that have the correct relationship to the real world), wide FOV and resolution, etc. Hunching over a tiny screen that takes up relatively few arc-degrees of your field of view will seem incredibly limiting and primitive. The AR glasses will become the thing NOBODY wants to ever leave the house without, in the 2028-2040 timeframe.
