The secret of creating gold has fascinated alchemists for thousands of years, but now scientists have finally solved the mystery.

Precious metals are forged in the cataclysmic collision of neutron stars and then flung out into the universe where they eventually aggregate with other stardust into larger bodies, like planets or comets.

The "mystery" was solved years ago. The population of the periodic table via the forces within stars was known by scientists a hundred years ago. The original elements were limited to helium and hydrogen. The only "secret" is how dumbed down and click-bait reporting is these days.

I was very disappointed with this announcement. They could have just released it normally like other scientist.

That is the thing today. All physicist, engineers, etc. want to be the next ones to have that "ah ha!" moment that has news running around the world where they can go home and pop a bottle of champagne and stuff.

They spend too much time watching tv/internet movies, shows.

It was exaggeratingly overhyped.

Fusion inside a star stops at iron. The creation of elements heavier then iron being created within neutron star collisions was hypothesized decades ago. Fusion of elements inside main sequence stars stops at iron.
