PNW ..., you must know how to speak some foreign language because most people who do not speak a second language do not realise this.

I am a polyglot and it is part of my job as a simultaneous translator for entities where there is more than one language spoken. German is my forte and it is really hard to do because unless you get to the end of the sentence you will not know what was tried to be conveyed ...

We usually get transcripts of the subject at hand but still, to make sure ...

At the end of the day, I am truly exhausted.

Even then, after we got more computing power and a better algorithm for translation, I think we will be a very long way of making sure that when whatever is translated, the context is correct!

Side story ... I also do this in Church when we have foreign guests. There are a few people in my ward who can do simultaneous translations so we usually split up and sit behind the groups a bit away from each other.

One time after the services, the Bishop told us that he really enjoyed true stereo translations ...
Apparently, it got a bit loud once and a while! Later on, we received headphones and an over-the-mouth cup type microphone.
