question if I have a bottle of water 12 ounces, and another bottle at 16 ounces. if I put them in the freezer will one freeze to ice faster than the other one or the same? This is not homework, just curious, I think it would take longer for the 16 ounces of water to freeze since 12 ounces is less, but not sure. Google did not answer this question.

The answer lies not only in the mass, but the relative amounts of interface to the cold of the freezer. A 16 oz layer of water in a covered sheet pan will freeze more quickly than in a bottle, where a smaller area comprises the interface where heat transfer can occur.

Given equal containers and positioning in any airflow, the 12 oz might freeze marginally faster. Or, if the 16 oz went into the narrow neck, IT might freeze marginally faster.
