Your TI-84 is wrong.

-5^2 = 25......-1 x 5^2 = -1 x 25 = -25....(-1 x 5)^2 = 25

5^2 implies -1 x 5^2 ????.... In other words, every single time you square a positive number you get a negative number?

Maybe you're confusing sq roots: 25^1/2 = +/- 5

(5^2)-(-5^2)=


(5^2) = 25
(-5^2) = 25


25 - 25 = 0

Lol — I still cringe whenever I see someone using a calculator without RPN. The fact that HP CEO Carly Fiorina tried to kill off RPN calculators told me all I needed to know about her ability to lead in government or industry.
