Okay, so apparently gift cards are no longer actual things you carry around, but are now digitalized. You redeem them using an app on your "smart" phone. But what if you don't own one and use just a laptop?
This is a bad development for me to learn of, as I also do not own a zombie phone. I suppose that any gift received which is impossible to use is not much of a gift beyond the thought of it. Anyone who knows you well enough should also know that you do not have a phone. Basic courtesy; you wouldn't buy a pack of cigarettes for a non-smoker, for example.
It's for Starbucks, which I rarely use anyway, but seems to be mostly a drive-thru. How would you "order online" for a cup of coffee???
I suppose in the end they'll force us all onto zombie phones -- or try to, anyway!
