It is not hard consciousness, it is the hard problem of consciousness, which is our ignorance of :
1) how we create some of our experiences. So light of a certain wave length we experience as red, or molecules in a certain arrangement we experience as the taste of chocolate.
2) how we are aware of internal and external existence.
But we can measure parts of it. Every time we drink alcohol, or have our brains probed, or the unfortunate people who have accidents tell us about parts of our consciousness. This is a clue that consciousness is a product of out brains, and not some cosmic property.
We can also train neural networks to do the same things we do, such as facial recognition. Which is another a clue that consciousness is a product of our brains.
So where in the body is the 'I' which is experiencing everyday life then? Somehow, I think the brain is one big receiver of energy which it interprets into what we resolve as senses of various kinds. All we can do is show on a screen or meter the electrical energy moving through our brain's grey matter. Just because we can measure 'something' does not mean it is a part of consciousness we are measuring.
How were CIA and military personnel able to do Remote Viewing in the 1970's which they did for at least 20+ years and are probably still doing so (although the acknowledged program stopped). Originally the Russians were the ones who alerted us to the fact that we had no research in this area as they were using it already at that time - presumably to spy on the USA. What is going on when people perform Remote Viewing? When they can accurately view in their mind's eye what is beyond time and space.
This is not a speculation but is an acknowledged and funded program for 20+ years.
There is research which has shown that group thought can effect random number generators(RNG) placed across the globe. How can that be? Is it the power or electricity of all those brains all acting on 'something' which effects these RNGs?
The collapse of the wave function teases at the possibility of cosmic consciousness.
In the Copenhagen interpretation of QM, quantum events don't happen in any one specific way until you look at them. Prior to being observed, an event is a purely abstract probability wave describing every way it could happen. Each possible state is as real as all the others, but when you observe the event, the wave collapses and all outcomes except one vanish. The Cat is both alive and dead until you open the box.
If nothing happens at the quantum scale until someone looks, it suggests that observation must have been going on long before the universe evolved conscious creatures. It suggests that consciousness did not begin with the creatures that evolved in the universe, but rather, it was there from the very beginning. With no one to look, nothing could have gotten started.

"Science" is the wrong mechanism or approach to be using for evidence of cosmic consciousness.
You could use a microscope to look at happiness, but won't see it that way either.
The right tools and approaches are needed to see/sense what's there, and some of those tools are within us; living and dynamic; not manufactured and synthesized.
Science isn't the "end all" "be all", and has it's own limitations. That's learning Step #1. Science didn't create the brain or mind, and yet's it's more advanced that science could ever be.
