We (my husband and I) are handicapped, and I am thinking it might be useful for us to have alexa or some system we can speak to each other from different rooms. We can call each other, but I'm wondering about alexa and/or ring, how they work. I've been to BestBuy several times but those guys don't have time, patience, or knowledge to spend with customers. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks. Also I'm concerned about talking to people who come to front door -- we live in apartment complex but cannot easily get up to see who's at the front door. I'm not particularly worried about break-ins, but more concerned about finding out who's at the front door. Thanks.
Alexa will work for intercom, but it might just be easier to get a regular wireless intercom system.
Re: your front door. If you live in an apartment complex, you might want to find out if they will even allow you to put a camera at your front door. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they say no. If they do allow it, you may not be able to secure it with screws - might have to use double sided tape or command strips. That's just begging for someone to take it (or break it).
Not that I have any respect at all for most Best Buy workers (though I've met a few good ones, most of them are as dumb as a brick when it comes to electronics), but there's probably a certain expectation that if you come in looking for an Alexa or wireless camera system, you have a basic understanding of what you want and what you want it to do. They're not going to explain how they work from the ground up. Most people either already know how they work and just want someone to hand them the device, or they've done their homework online and have a base understanding of what they want and go into a store to physically see the device. Me personally? When I walk into a store, I already know what I'm looking for. Me personally? I'm not going to ask a blue shirt for any advice at all. I'm just going to ask them to get me the item if it's behind a locked door or in the back.
