I've purchased some property, 50+ acres, filled with trees, hills, fields and who knows what kind of vegetation.
I considered doing an overlay of the property boundaries into graph paper and pencil in features as I explore.

There must be a better way. Plus I don't want to get lost out there! So no matter what I want to be able to backtrack.

I'm planning to cut trails for my horses, annotate possible campsite locations, document the location of possible harvestable plants, etc.
Is there an app out there that would do this?

Ask your surveyor how they do it.

Order the relevant topo map/s from the USGS, make photocopies and mark features on the copies in pencil. Much easier than apps. Correlate with Google Maps sat photos.

I can get lost in a supermarket!

But that's not the point of what I want to do. (Not get lost)

Yeah. Looks like I'll be putting pencil to paper.

I don't have one but might need one at some time.

I know foresters who cruise timber have their methods, too.

Get a GPS and mark appropriate waypoints. As you become more familiar with the property, you can plot/save 'tracks' for paths that you use often. The same can be done with an off-the-shelf GPS app (i.e. gaia gps or avenza maps).

Thank you. That's pretty much my goal. I'll see what's out there.

Congratulations hunterseat,
At the 4 corners of your property there should be a brass spike in the ground, or some other type of marker close by. So you will know where your property ends.
I'm fortunate to have rural forest acreage, surrounded by BLM forest/land.

I don't know about "four corners" but that link has lots of good info, thanks!

I was reading the legal description and it's asking the lines of "start at the big white oak, thence head north to the big rock with the maple stump.." I think that's from 1905.
