The huge majority of Americans don't want metric.

Yeah...it certainly would be easier if EVERYONE would be on the same page, concerning metric reading and conversions......
Are there any other countries, besides the US, that don't use them?
In Germany, we learn it early on, and I find it easier to use.
1000 Kilogramm= 1 Tonne

But, I guess the only important one for me to remember is converting my weight.....2.205 (US) Pounds = 1 (German) Kilogram, just in case my family and friends want to know how much our dogs and I weigh.....lol.

I don't really get the whole issue of converting metric values to imperial. Forcing metric values into a king's foot or thumb (as was done in the 80s with all those ridiculous conversion charts) is really an exercise in futility.

When we buy a 2 liter bottle of soda, does anyone obsess about how many ounces it equals? When we spend a dollar, do we bemoan that it's too hard because we can't keep straight how many pounds or shillings it is? No! So why should we obsess that 100 kg equals 220 pounds, or that 1 km is 0.6 miles? In real-world terms, who cares? The Imperial system is idiotic and needs to just go away.

Yeah just like the huge majority of Americans don't want to go green (until recently) or how British colonists didn't want to use the Popish calendar before 1752.

I think we will convert soon because the U.S. didn't file an objection to the EU directive. It seems 2009 is the time they were planning the whole time. Only the British and the Irish objected and so this will not apply to them.

Metrication ranks high up there with Daylight Saving Time.

How many guineas did you spend at Nordstrom today? How many pounds did you spend on that dress?

Well my point exactly. No one obsesses about what that dollar converts to in "kings'" currency. I predict that the average "pounder" in the U.S. experiences zero anxiety over buying a 2 liter bottle of soda because they don't know how many ounces are in 2 l. And on the subject of ounces, how silly of a system uses the same donation for volume and weight? I further predict that the average person in the U.S. will experience zero anxiety over filling the tank with liters instead of gallons and measuring driving distance in KMs instead of miles.

PS. The subject of pounds and dresses can be a touchy one, BTW. I never attempt to guess for fear of getting slapped.

A guinea is 21 shillings or £ 1 1/-. There are 20 shillings in a pound (£ 1 = 20 s.). One shilling can really mess up things!

Another subject:
Why are we measuring gasoline with wine gallons? You can't sell wine in gallons anymore since the 1970's.
