That was absolutely meaningless. You can break into every room without much more than a legitmate hotel key and a MagStripe writer. The $50 "admission fee" for unlimited access to every room is far worth it.
Of course, you could always make a steel rod with a loop on both ends and shove that under the door. It isn't hard to make lock picks. Locks are for the perception of safety. It'll stop some mook from walking into your house, but anyone determined (I.E., an actual thief) can get into anywhere without much trouble.
Someone can break into your keypad car locks in less than 20 minutes. That said person can steal a laptop with a Bic pen. Master locks will not keep them from letting your dog out of the back yard, or opening a tool shed.
If you want safety, buy a shotgun and an alarm system, and know how to use both of them properly.
