Anybody else here find themselves happiest when they withdraw from technology?

Looking back some of the best times of my life were spent on a few 8 day trips on canoe. No phone, no TV etc. The only thing we had was a radio. I can still remember the one conversation as we are floating down the river,,, "Do you hear that?"... "Hear what? ... "Exactly!".

I see no reason why we cannot strike an intelligent balance. At least that’s what I do. I take time out to read my favorite authors…the hard copy  ; I watch 2 soaps at least thrice a week, no more. I take camping/ hiking vacations; and I take time out to meet friends over coffee and workout too. What’s the big deal?

Also, I don't have a cell phone. At all.

When I tell people this, everyone tells me how smart I am, how they wish they had never gotten one, how they hate being so connected. And yet they don't throw the damn things away. Why is that?
