There are lots of Americans of Asian descent in the Seattle metro area as well as Asian immigrants. The same is true of the entire Puget Sound region. I like it (my wife is SE Asian) and don't see why anyone wouldn't, but the whole 'diversity' thing is hogwash. As Theodore Roosevelt famously said: "There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism." That is even more true now than in his time.

The question-topic sounds very racist. Do you have a problem with that? And, BTW 16% is a huge percentage?

I don't think it's a racist sounding question at all. In Seattle, we have proud, wonderful people of Asian descent from many countries. It's great and a vital and vibrant part of our city's fabric.

Interesting that since this post died off in 2013 many more Asians have moved here. Not so much in Seattle, which seems more white now, as the eastside. Even Sammamish is now 23% Asian, Bellevue 34%.

Well, I don't quite understand how "HUGE" refers to only 16% of population? We, Asians, are still minority here.
To author of topic: factor #1) consider fact Asian population is the largest in the world. factor #2) Pacific cost closer to Japan and other Asian countries #3) housing still affordable, not bad job market

Asia, 1/3 of worlds land mass and 1/3 world population. Siberia to Syria, Turkey to Thailand.

Don't know why I posted that.

The West Coast has more Asians and Central Americans. The East Coast has more African Americans and Carribbeans. Geography has a lot to do with it.

Go to the excellent Wing Luke Museum in the International District in Seattle. Spend 2-3 hours there, you'll understand exactly why there are so many people of Asian descent in the this area. Here is the link: Home > Wing Luke Museum

One reason from researching about area real estate is that The rich Chinese are investing in real estate here and places like silicone valley and Vancouver b.c. and some are moving their families here. Than if your talking about East Indian people than that's obviously because of all the contract workers for the tech companies. Many are now becoming permanence residents.

And while riding the light rail from Sea-Tac airport to Downtown, I observed the same thing.

So why is there a huge Asian-American population in the Seattle area?

I'm just curious. I live in Dallas, where there's an enormous Latino population. So I was wondering about the Asian population in the Pacific Northwest.
You're kidding, right? First of all, it's a tech hub, but you knew that, right? And all major West Coast cities/urban regions have a lot of Asians. Are you from the East Coast? If so, you're much farther away from Asia than the West Coast. Do a little history and geography research. It could be eye-opening.
