Consistantly, visitors to Seattle say that the U-District and the Ave feel the most like a "real city" in Seattle.

Sure, downtown has the tall buildings, but the Ave has a a certain urban grit and wall-to-wall low-rises that the rest of Seattle (Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Ballard, Fremont, etc.) seems to lack.

Anyone agree or disagree?

I don't know if I'd agree with that. I'd say that it's the most organically urban part of Seattle. It's the opposite of South Lake Union in that way...

I'd say Southwest Capitol Hill/ The Pike/Pine corridor is at least as urban as the U District. It is practically downtown, but has a lot more people living there, and also has some of that grittiness that makes places urban.

I would say the Ave is one of the 3 or 4 most urban streets in Seattle, sure.

"Most urban"? Define "urban". Why are low-rises and grit "urban"?

What about Northgate Way?

Capitol Hill. Its the densest neighborhood in Seattle and the densest neighborhood of any city on the West Coast north of San Francisco.

I'm going to argue that the Pike/Pine Corridor (And nearby parts of Broadway) on Capitol Hill is the most urban feeling part of Seattle - Densely populated, vibrant and walkable, with lots of character, and just a hint of grit. The ave has similar characteristics, just to a lesser degree IMO.

No. The Ave is just a dirty little strip with some cool stores.

The Ave? Hahahaha what a joke. Not even close.

Northgate Way? Hey, are you trying to joke around? Northgate is completely rural.

Downtown is urban.
Capitol Hill is urban.

The ave is probably #100 on the list of "urban" areas in seattle.
