There seems to be no Wal-Mart locations in Seattle. Why is that? Does Seattle have something against Wal-Mart? I mean, it's not nearly as bad as K-Mart, but there are some exclusive things that Wal-Mart carries that no other store does (like minutes for my cellular phone) and the nearest one appears to be Federal Way.

Where in Seattle would it be located? It does better in a suburban setting, where it has room to consume space and build out. And yes, some Seattle people are high browed, and would rail against the consumerism image that Wal-Mart has.

There isn't any Wal-Mart in the Eastside either (unless you want to count the one in Renton). I do remember that they tried to build one in Redmond, but people got into an uproar because the location they wanted to build was the wetlands and because it wouldn't help ease traffic (even though Wal-Mart said they would help with that) and ultimately they didn't want Wal-Mart to leave their mark on the city.

Lynnwood's and Renton's Wal-Mart are not Super Centers; Federal Way is. On the North end, right now the closest I can think of is probably Marysville. If you want Wal-Mart Super Center galore, you'd have to go south towards Tacoma, Puyallup.

The NW "one-stop shopping" market was already saturated with Fred Meyer. Wal Mart does well in rural areas of the country, where there weren't other options. But Freddies was here before Wal Mart tried to muscle its way in.

This is just my theory.

And I'm thankful for that.

The Renton store is the closest to Seattle.

Fred Meyer is way better than Wal-Mart, anyway. Union employees help.

I like Fred Meyer. Wish there was one accessible to me.

Walmart not so much. Don't miss it.

Wal-Mart is terrible. It's on every corner down here in Houston and it seems to put all other smaller stores out of business. It's a good thing there aren't many locations up in Seattle. Part of this is because people would be against it. Imagine putting one in Bellevue..it'd never work.

Well said. The above and this is why I'll never set foot in a Wal-Mart:

That and the "dead peasants" insurance policy. Try to cover that up with college credit all they want. Why is it not illegal?

mod interpose: this thread should NOT turn into a "why I dislike Walmart" thread. There are numerous threads on this on other parts of the forum. Please keep the discussion as close to answering the OP's question as possible.
