$ 6,000 should last you for about three months. Don't expect to find a job teaching history in any public school until you get a Washington State Teaching Certificate. This will require that you go back to school to pick up some courses required for state teacher certification.

This post has me filled with tears of joy. I am in the exact situation as many have posted here. I currently have a job that's on the verge of shutting down and have savings of less than $2500. I don't hold any degrees but I have extensive experience in customer service, sales, and mortgage experience. I plan on transferring from Univ of Texas to a community college and I recently found out schools there have programs in culinary arts which is my passion. So I plan on double majoying in Accounting and Culinary Arts. While attending school I plan to live in Capitol Hill or Queen Ann before I need to hustle up a gig before I make a final selection.

I don't have a lot in savings and my credit is tarnished but I will make up for that in a positive attitude and strong determination. I'm a 26 year old black male looking to finally live my dream doing while I enjoy (cooking) while loving on the west coast.

Thank you all for creating this thread and keeping the positive energy flowing.

I am a 26 year old female moving to Seattle in June from CA with not a lot of money and no job. I am leaving behind a good job for a fresh start in the only place I have ever wanted to live, Seattle. I have an education and years of work experience, so hope to get a temp job for a while until I can find a full time job with benefits. I have been applying to hundreds of jobs the past few months in Seattle, but most of the responses I get is they don’t hire out of state applicants. Can’t wait to call Seattle home!

To everyone contemplating moving to Seattle with seemingly insufficient funds - please come! I actually moved here with less than $2000, and it has been a reasonably smooth experience. There are plenty of jobs available, but many will be retail and temp jobs if you are looking to start work within two weeks of arrival (depending on your background and existing professional/social network). There are plenty of rooms available on Craigslist for less than $500 monthly; I rent a room in a very quiet, essentially crime-free neighborhood in Shoreline for only $390 per month ABP. There is no reason to wait for the economy to return to pre-recession levels because you could be sleeping in the cemetery by then. If you want something bad enough, you'll make it work out.

That's awesome, Back2LifeInSeattle. As others have said, I thought this thread was a good read. It was like watching a movie, but the ending sucked lol. Kinda like No Country for Old Men. I didn't get any closure on the main characters.

This is a good thread. I moved to Chicago a few years ago, after truck rental and gas, only $2000 in my bank account. I got a job within 3 weeks and an apartment despite my bad credit. And in Chicago, that is hard to do. My exgirlfriend pulled off a move to south Florida with only $1800 in her account and everything she could pack into her car. She ended up with a terrific job in a short amount of time. It can definitely be done. As for the original poster, looks like he is still in Denver. He had a recent post in February that mentions that he is in Denver. Anyway...

I'm unfortunately back in Dallas, plotting my next move. I've always had my eyes on Seattle after a couple of visits. And after months of deliberation, am planning to make the move next summer. I want to pay off this last student loan which is almost done, as I'd rather not have to move with such a small savings account this time. But seeing stories in this thread that mirror moves of friends and of my own in the past, reminds me that my hope of getting the hell out of this crummy state aren't that far away.

Not Seattle-centric, but back in 2007, me, the wife, three kids, and my sister-in-law, moved to a major city with only $6K in hand, with no jobs.

My wife and I were both employed within a couple of weeks. My sister-in-law has since left and lived with us again on two other occasions, and has also lived in CA (multiple occasions), and WV (once). But she still hasn't had a job.

Times were different in 2007, weren't they?
