I'm a 28 year old male who will be taking a new position in Bellevue, WA. However, I'm unsure as to whether I should live on the east side of the lake, say downtown Kirkland, or whether I should live in Seattle? I think Seattle is the better fit for me, but I know the traffic across the bridge can be a nightmare. Any thoughts

Regards,

Chris

If the position is in downtown Bellevue and during typical working hours, I'd think about living on the Seattle side if you think you'd be more comfortable. There's pretty good bus service to downtown Bellevue.

Default Thanks IRA500!

How long of a commute is it from Upper Queen Anne (where I'm currently looking)? Or is there somewhere else I should be searching, as well?

Chris

There wouldn't be a bus from Upper QA to Bellevue; you'd need to get downtown to get a bus, which would be about a half hour ride . If you're driving, it can be quick if it's at off hours and you go on I-90 rather than 520. I might think about Columbia City or the Central District, neighborhoods closer to I-90.

Expect at least an hour each way from Seattle to Bellevue (including walking to/from stops).

Upper QA to downtown Bellevue Monday - Friday 8am-7pm should be fine with Metro. You can catch metro from QA to DT Seattle and then catch 550 in tunnel to DT B'vue. That's probably one of the better commmutes available by bus - runs every 10-15 minutes...I would encourage you to consider living on the eastside (kirkland) if you like the Orange County kind of lifestyle (sprawl, traffic, waspy).

Hey HoltDawg -where did you end up living? I'm in the exact same position; single, 28 and got a job in Bellevue - I heart Seattle -however I do not want that long of a commute. Considering Mercer Island as a in between location... have you heard anything about MI? Interested to see where you ended up and if you're happy (I hope!). Thanks!

The more interesting question for me is how the two of you found jobs being out-of-state and what industries you're in? And if the company paid relocation costs? Hopefully you can give some advice.

I'm in a similar situation...single, 28, male, but just finished business school and am moving there on 9/8 without a job lined up. Am not having too much luck being 2,400 miles away. :-(
