Hi guys,

I've been offered a job at a new Indian Casino being built near Snoqualmie (?). How far is this from Downtown Seattle in terms of commuting? Also, what are some nice neighborhoods nearest to this area. I enjoy older neighborhoods with charm and some walking culture.

Can you suggest any zip codes to look at?

thank you

The town of Snoqualmie is about 28 miles from downtown Seattle.

Look at Snoqualmie proper. It's a quaint little town. You might just like it there if you like a more rural small town atmosphere. The town of Snoqualmie is changing with growth but still retains a historic character and a still bit of ruralness at this point.

What about Bend?

Also, what are the public transportation options from these towns going in and out of the city>

North Bend is fine, although rural. It has a small downtown, although I am not exactly sure that I would describe it as charming. North Bend is nice for its natural beauty. Mt. Si sits right in town, and the town is a gateway to the Cascades.

The bus. It's possible that there will be a few transfers though. Commuting in and out of downtown Seattle during rush hours will be bad, even taking the bus. Non-rush hour it shouldn't be too bad, I'd guess about 45 mins. Could be longer though if 90 snarls up at some point.

What is the closest city type neighborhood between Snoqualmie and Seattle? I want to be able to walk to shopping, cafes, etc. and still be close enough to the job that I don't have a hellish commute. I have one child, so safety is a concern, but I enjoy younger hipper neighborhoods too.

Thanks again for all the advice!

Issaquah - and you may want to look in the "downtown" area of Issaquah for a really cute little town sort of atmosphere.

Good schools, safe and lots of young families.

There are also a few "planned development" neighborhoods in the Issaquah area. We used to live in one of them - Klahanie, which was great and there was a shopping area you could walk to. Neighborhood school, parks, family activities etc.

We lived there several years ago, and since we have left at least two other "planned development" areas have sprouted up. Issaquah Highlands and Tiger Mountain something or other...

I'm staying in North Bend right now and I don't mind the town at all.

If you're still checking this thread, Chest, I still say to stay as close to where you work as possible. If you're working around the town of Snoqualmie, I'd suggest you try to find residence in Snoqualmie, Fall City, or North Bend.

When you asked about the public transportation, did you mean into Seattle? There is a Metro shuttle that runs from North Bend through Snoqualmie to Fall City, Preston, and Issaquah. From Issaquah, there are numerous routes going to various locations, including several options to Seattle. There is a commuter route into and out of Seattle to Preston, Fall City, Snoqualmie, and North Bend but will only be running in the commute direction during the week day rush hour so it wouldn't be doing you any good in the reverse direction.

I was just roaming around downtown North Bend yesterday and it's a nice little area. I hadn't really been to North Bend for several years and it's grown quite a bit. I even had the cherry pie at the "twin peaks" cafe (Twede's).

Oh, there's also a huge outlet mall in town too which provides a lot of shopping possibilities.
