We are originally from L.A., CA and moved to Charlotte, NC 6 years ago, right after the birth of our first child. We are considering a move to Seattle and wondering if anyone has made this move, and if so, how the cities compare? We live in S. Charlotte, near the Ballantyne area.
Thanks!

I would like to know this too, although I am from Richmond va.. which may even be more of a extreme culture shock than coming to Seattle from Raleigh or Charlotte. Actually I think from Richmond to Raleigh and Charlotte alone would be extreme culture shock.. but anyways I hope you get the point.

Same here I would like to know. Even though I live in Miami, I consider myself a "summer time" resident of Raleigh due to spending my summers in Raleigh over the last several years. This year though, my time in Raleigh was limited to about a month due to spending a month visiting Seattle. So even though Raleigh is not Charlotte, I definitely can compare Seattle to Raleigh. Don't know if it helps but I can point to some of the differences:

Seattle is more: *Liberal than Raleigh and more liberal than Charlotte as well.
*Summer temperatures are awesome in Seattle. *From my limited experience in Charlotte, people in both Charlotte and Raleigh seem a bit more friendlier and outgoing than Seattle. People in Seattle in general are polite and nice, but tend to keep more to themselves. *Traffic in Charlotte is bad, but it is worse in Seattle.

*Overall the culture and dress code in Seattle is definitely more casual than Charlotte and Raleigh. *Pay at jobs is higher in Seattle but so is the cost of living. *Customer service at restaurants and bars in general is better in Charlotte and Raleigh than Seattle. *For Summer time festivals and activities I definitely give the edge to Seattle. *Panhandling and begging for money is ALOT MORE noticeable in Seattle. BY FAR! *Public transportation is much much better in Seattle.
