Hi there! My wife and I will be moving to Seattle by the end of the year and are looking for some recommendations on places to live. We are early/mid thirties, have no kids, love to go out...(nice restaurants and lounges/bars..NO CLUBS), are very athletic. Have one small 10 lb dog and small cat. Want to have cool places to hang out as well...shops, coffee, boutiques, cafes, etc..

We r moving from Austin, TX... have been here most my life and want a change...wife is from San Fran and we both love Seattle...visited there last fall and decided that is where we wanted to be.

we are looking at rent between 1500-2000...could be apt/townhome or house.

anyway, that is about it.. any info is great. Thanks!

Queen Anne, Fremont, Ballard, Wallingford, Capital Hill/First Hill (closest to downtown)

And Belltown, but I like Queen Anne best.

I'd say Capitol Hill, Belltown, or Lower Queen Anne would be the best spots to start out.

Columbia City ... great restaurants, young crowd, one mile to Lake Washington/Seward Park with best running, biking paths around. Great dog off leash area nearby.

Queen Anne is awesome! Lots of character, shops, cafes, close to downtown, close to everything! Greenlake would also be a good choice- it has a great trail surrounding the lake which is great for walking, running, biking, whatever. Greenlake also has some nice cafes and bars too. Capital Hill is cool, very edgy and I think is more for the 20s instead of 30s crowd, but to each their own. Downtown Seattle has really gotten nice over the years, you may even want to check that out too. Seattle is a great place to live if you like the outdoors, I am sure you will be happy there!

Actually, Capitol Hill is kind of split. The Pike Pine corridor, southwest Capitol Hill, Broadway, and everything west of about 12th is younger, but North Capitol Hill is older, less densely populated, and very nice, but close enough to everything.

Queen Anne, Wallingford, Green Lake (great for walking the dog) and Fremont. Also consider the Alki Beach part of West Seattle, the views are terrific. Welcome to Seattle.

Default Seattle's Hip Life

There are so many choices for someone younger, without children (or even with children) to live in Seattle. It depends on how close-in you want to be. One of the hot spots right now is Ballard - great places to go - great nightlife, etc. It has a fantastic neighborhood community in Fremont. One of the trendiest neighborhoods, a little pricey too - but there are rentals at good price points - is South lake Union - or even better - just attached to it - and right off the trolley line is a great little neighborhood - very affordable called Eastlake which is bordered on the West by Lake Union. Great community and neighborly area. The downtown corridor has put up several options with condos now converted to rental units at affordable prices - and close in to Seattle Center and the main loop.
