We own a 2200 sq ft house on five acres built in 1991- 3 bed, 2 bath. One bath has a shared shower/tub. But our master bedroom has only a garden tub with jets and picture window. We converted the shower space to a linen closet.

Will this significantly hurt resell value of our home?

I think the location/neighborhood the house is in has much more of an effect than whether or not there's a shower in the master bath. The buyer pool might be a little smaller without the shower, but I don't think it'll have any significant effect on resale value. Especially if your house is in a location where people want to be, and other parts of the house are attractive and are what people are looking for.
And if your house is in a location where houses aren't selling, putting in a shower probably won't do the trick. My inclination is to suggest that you do everything you can to make the house look uncluttered, pretty, and clean, and not worry about the shower.

I wouldn't buy a home without a shower in the master suite. It will take out some buyers, to be sure. I agree with Ira, though, it shouldn't significantly impact your selling price.

Count me as not willing to buy a house without a shower in the master bath. I could live without a tub, but not a shower.

I second the opinions voiced here. I, personally, want my shower/tub separate from the secondary one.

There are so many more important factors to consider. Most people make up their mind in the first few minutes of seeing a house, before they see your bathroom. But after that, they're looking for reasons not to buy it, weird, but if nothing comes up, you have a buyer. If putting the shower back loses the closet, you're better off leaving it as it is. Let the agent remind the potential owner that they can convert it back to a shower if they want. Easy.

I'll echo this exact statement.

No shower = no good for me. I haven't taken a bath since I learned how to walk.

As far as hurting value? Well, if the rest of the house is awesome, it wouldn't kill the deal for me ... but the house needs to be "cool" enough to make converting that linen closet back into a shower worth it.

Just to be clear: The house does have a shower, just not in the master bathroom, right?

Not many people want to get a bath every day. I'd build the shower. Talk to a real estate agent and get their opinion.

How hard can it be to run a pipe up the wall, stick a rainshower head on it-and hang a shower curtain rod? geez even I can do that-problem solved-you're welcome.
